TONY “SEKOU” HERU (biography by : Dance Fusion NYC Crew)
Tony Sekou Heru Williams is from Trenton New Jersey. His unique dance style fuses an array of forms from hip-hop, house, martial arts and even fitness training.He has toured with Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince and with Fred Ho’s “Voice Of The Dragon”(Columbia Artist Management national tour).He performed with Mariah Carey in Michael Jackson’s “United We Stand” concert, has appeared in the films “Brown Sugar”,”Marci X” , “25th Hour”and in music videos including Will Smiths “Ring My Bell” Aretha Francklin’s “Same Ol Song” MC Lyte’s ” Ice Cream Dream”and Foxy Brown/JayZ’s “Ill Be”. Sekou choreographed Fall Out Boy’s “Dance Dance”. It has won many awards, including Viewer’s Choice at the MTV Video Music Awards and two Teen Choice Awards.He has appeared on VH1 Fashion Awards , Soul Train and The Arsenio Hall show.He has traveled the Globe teaching House dance and judging organized street dance competitions, is a certified fitness instructor and has created his own dance method called POWERHOUSE DANCE Fusion Fitness.His most recent stage performance “The Greatest” with The Peggy Choy Dance Company at La Mama Theater in New York and the University of Madison in Wisconsin examines the life and times of boxing great Muhammad Ali and his meeting with Malcolm X( Sekou).Sekou is currently teaching at Peridance Capezio Center and EXPG Professional Gym in NYC.
